Arsenal will put their “maximum effort” into this season’s FA Cup campaign, according to Arsène Wenger.

The Gunners travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City in a challenging third-round tie on Sunday afternoon.

Wenger is looking forward to taking part in the competition once again, and is confident about his side’s chances of silverware.

“We play at Swansea; it’s a difficult tie, but of course we want to come out on top,” he said. “The FA Cup is something special because it is exciting, it is watched all over the world.

“It has a special history in England and I have always respected that. I am always sad when we don't win it or when we go out. We will put our maximum effort in on Sunday to win the game.

“It’s the first round we come in, so people will speculate a lot about who will win it in the end. To have a chance to do that, you just need to get through the first round [you take part in].”

After a busy Christmas schedule Wenger could make changes on Sunday, but he insists he will field a strong side at the Liberty Stadium.

“I just play the team that I think has the best chance of winning the game, without considering any rotational desire, unless I think one or two players need a breather,” he said. “It will not be based on the fact that it’s purely rotational.”
