Kieran Gibbs has praised Arsenal's character after another battling Champions League victory on Wednesday night.

Arsène Wenger's side followed up last month's hard-fought 2-1 win at Montpellier by digging deep to beat Olympiacos at Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and Aaron Ramsey.

The Greek champions made life difficult after scoring a first-half equaliser but Arsenal are top of Group B with maximum points - and Gibbs knows that's all that matters.

"You have to win like that sometimes," he said. "No game in the Champions League is easy. We showed a good test of character because it’s difficult when it’s a draw and you’re pushing for the win, but we managed to do that.

“Our extra quality in the squad came through in the end, and we managed to get another good win in the Champions League.

"It’s all about [getting over the line] - getting the win. We know our qualities. We showed tonight and in the first game that we have the qualities to beat these teams and I think we’ve done that again.

"We had stages in both games where we were on the back foot. It’s just a matter of soaking up that pressure. In the end, we had individual quality that made the difference.

"It was important to bounce back after a defeat [against Chelsea] at home. It was important for the players especially. We wanted to shake off a few doubts in our mind that we had. We certainly did that and we’re back on the front foot now. This is what we have to keep doing and keep pushing on from here."

Gibbs put in another solid 90 minutes at left back and, as has regularly been the case this season, got forward to good effect behind Lukas Podolski.

"To be honest, I just play the game how I think it should be played," said Gibbs. "I help the midfielders and attackers whenever I can.

"I think it [getting forward] gives us an edge, plus the fact that we have such technical midfielders and have players that can keep the ball really well. It allows me and Carl to push on and almost play a risky game, like any attacking team does. It’s working well for us so hopefully we can keep it going."

"Lukas is a fantastic worker and he’s a great player as well," added Gibbs. "He’s a joy to work with. The fact that he works so hard inspires me to work hard as well. He brings that to the team. He’s a very important player for us and he’s producing goals, he’s defending well, he’s attacking well. It’s a pleasure to work with him."
