'We’re winning in unconventional ways'

13/14: Arsenal 3-1 Stoke City - Bacary Sagna

Arsene Wenger has praised the Arsenal squad for maintaining their fine recent form despite having to occasionally adapt their game.

Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna were all on target as Wenger’s side recorded their fourth successive league win with a 3-1 success against Stoke City on Sunday.

That victory came despite the visitors having 65 per cent of possession in the second half, which the boss believes may have been down to tiredness on the part of his team.

“The possession Stoke had was completely against our reputation and our way of play,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “But that made me as well decide some players needed a little breather because we were heavy-legged in the second half.

“Since the first international friendly some players have played every three days so it was vital for them to get even just mentally a little break but overall we managed in that game to keep the result. There again I think it's because defensively we are more stable.”

Arsenal have been efficient at the other end of the pitch too, which Wenger says is down to the team’s individual class.

“That's linked with the quality of the final ball,” he explained. “If a chance is clear like for example Ozil at Sunderland for Giroud, the accuracy and the transformation of your chances into goals is easier and I think it's down to that.”
