On the injury to Rhys Murphy…
“Rhys has unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury which is really sad for him. He has finally come back but he’s picked up an injury tonight. He has had no luck at the moment and it’s a character test for him but he’ll recover.”

On the overall performance…
“I am quite disappointed really. I have said to them in there that we’ve had quite a bit of possession but I can’t remember a clear-cut chance that we’ve created. For all your possession you need to turn it into goal chances. I think it was a good game and we passed the ball quite well but really you want to see them win the game.

“I felt at times West Ham had a little bit more desire to win tonight and I’m disappointed with that. The major thing is that possession has to be turned into goal chances and I don’t think we did that at all tonight. We’ll go back on the training ground, and they know the way they play and what we expect. We just need to work at it.”

On a third game without a goal…
“Teams come to Arsenal games and they do defend and they have a gameplan. It is up to us to find a solution to work it out. The manager says to find a solution and that is what I’ve said to them in the dressing room but we didn’t tonight. We huffed and puffed and there are no excuses about last weeks games left in their legs. We lacked a bit of imagination and flair around the attacking third.”

On the performances of the Gunners currently away on loan…
“Tomorrow I’m on my way to see Henri Lansbury and all the scouting network are watching the other players. The manager gets reports and how they’re doing and I think they are all doing quite well at the moment.”

On the structure of the Reserve League…
“Personally I would like to play the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. I think the Premier League is big enough to be playing these games perhaps once a year. We never really get up north to play them and the lads would like to do that.

“If some people get their heads together then surely it can be feasible. I don’t see why not. I’m sure those fixtures are attractive and it would be a good test for young players.”
