on the performance…
I’ll give credit to the players - they did exactly what I asked of them. When you get picked against a German side, it can sometimes be easy to sit back and try not to lose the game. After I watched some of the games Potsdam have played, I thought that the team we had and the players we’ve got could really hurt them. I thought a 2-1 scoreline maybe gives them [Potsdam] a little bit more credit than they deserve. That’s probably our fault because we didn’t take enough chances. Hopefully we can settle the job next week.

on Potsdam’s goal…
We know that the Japanese girl [Yuki Ogimi] is a class player. Credit to our defenders today, they kept her quiet for 99 per cent of the game. I think that was the only shot on target they really had in the whole 90 minutes. It just shows you that you can never stop defending and working hard when you play against players like they are. Potsdam aren’t a bad side but I thought today we played really well.

on getting a ’90-minute performance’ from her players…
Yes. I thought the performance for 90 minutes was excellent. You could say that we’re disappointed to concede, but I don’t think that was a reflection on our performance. I think the only thing we will be disappointed about when we watch the game back is the number of chances we created and didn’t take.

on Gemma Davison and Rachel Yankey
The moment I watched Potsdam play, I thought the areas down the sides would be a massive play for us today. I thought Gemma and Yanks did well. I also thought Beattie and Ellen made a real difference when they came on as well - that’s the strength in our squad that we have. We have girls that start and work really hard, and then we have girls that can come off the bench and change games.

on wanting to crown the season by getting into the last eight…
We’ve broken a hoodoo today. No English team had ever beaten a German side at senior level in an international or the Champions League. We’ve broken that today. We’ve just got to go and make sure we finish the job off next week.
