Arsene Wenger
'We’ll fight 'super' Chelsea every step'
By Matt Fortune
Arsène Wenger believes Chelsea are “super candidates” for the Premier League title but his own team will push them all the way.
Last week the Blues thumped Portsmouth 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, the largest margin of victory in the Premier League on the opening weekend. Afterwards the Arsenal manager admitted that he didn’t watch the second half because by that time, the match was over as a contest.
But Wenger insists that you cannot read too much into the first-day fixtures.
“Chelsea were very good, but Portsmouth had a bad day at the office,” said the Frenchman. “That can happen to anybody. I watched the first half, and then stopped watching because I felt the game was over.
“However, Chelsea were impressive - but on one game you cannot assess too much. They will be one of the super candidates to fight for the title, but I feel we have enough to fight with them.”
