Steve Gatting spoke to Arsenal.com after his side advanced to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup following victory against Fulham.

on progressing…
I’m very pleased for the players. It was a very hard game and we stuck together. We showed good team spirit, mental strength and character to get through the game.

on starting well…
We played how we could play - with tempo, we got in behind them and we created chances. If our finishing had been a bit more clinical, we could have been 4-0 up, and the game would have been over. In the FA Youth Cup, it doesn’t work that easily.

on Fulham’s second-half performance…
We found it hard as they are a good side. We knew it would be a tough game. I don't think the ground has been played on for two and a half weeks and that caused us a problem - that’s why [some of our players] had cramp in injury time. We had to dig in and defend well. At times in the second half, we made some great blocks at the back. There was some great defending, good recovery runs and we hung in there in the second half.

on Austin Lipman…
He took the goal well. I’m pleased for Austin - he came on and worked hard. It was a really good goal, a good strike from the edge of the box.

on building confidence...
We’ve got some talented players there. It gives the team a bit of belief that we can defend well as well as score goals. Hopefully we can keep going.

on being at home in the next round…
We know what the pitch is like - it’s on a slope but we are at home and it is an advantage. It would be nice to play at Emirates Stadium but that might not happen.
