Ivan Gazidis believes Arsenal are set up to strike for glory in the next few years.
Speaking at the Club's AGM on Thursday, the Chief Executive re-affirmed his view that the foundations for success had been laid over the past few years. Now the real target was within reach – trophies, glory and pride.
He said: "That ambition is shared by all of us at this table, that’s me, Arsène, our majority shareholder Stan Kroenke and the whole board.
"It’s also shared by everyone in this room – for Arsenal fans everywhere to be proud. To be proud of competing at the top of the game here and in Europe, winning trophies and doing it in a way that reflects our values and protects and promotes Arsenal for the long-term.
"We are in a position to look forward with real confidence in the new emerging landscape of the game,” said Mr Gazidis.
"I have no doubt we can and will return the club to winning trophies. That’s what this journey has all been about. That’s our shared ambition.
"No-one at Arsenal has ever been content with second best and we’re not going to change that now. We are now in a position to drive this great Club to new heights. We will do that by standing together, keeping to the values which have guided us through our history and being brave.
"Standing together we can make this Club successful, one of the best clubs in the world, and do it in a manner that will make you all, our supporters, proud.”
The Chief Executive's view was backed up by majority owner Stan Kroenke when Arsenal.com caught up with him after the meeting.
He told us: "I am ambitious for the Club and we all share the same goal. The reason I am involved in sport is to win. It's what it's all about. Everything else is a footnote.
"I can assure you no-one is more ambitious than me. Arsenal is a tremendous club with a track record of consistent performance at the top level. That is very rare but we have managed it. I know that will continue as we move forwards.
"We have an exciting future and our goal is to win trophies."
Earlier manager Arsène Wenger spelt out his ambition in the simplest terms and called on everyone – players, staff and fans – to help achieve it.
“We want to win the Premier League,” said the manager. “That’s why we are here and that’s what we want to fight for and, believe me, we’ll give absolutely every drop of energy to achieve this year.
“The environment is competitive, difficult and challenging. So I think we have to be united to achieve it and I’m sure we can count on you for the whole campaign. Then we’ll see what we deliver at the end of the season.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
