Cesc Fabregas is confident Arsenal will overturn their 1-0 Carling Cup Semi-Final deficit at Emirates Stadium.

Tamas Priskin gave Ipswich a slender first-leg advantage against a below-par Arsenal on Wednesday but the captain is convinced Arsène Wenger’s side will put things right in the return leg on January 25.

The Championship side were thrashed 7-0 at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup on Saturday and many predicted a similar outcome at Portman Road. It didn’t work out for Arsenal but Fabregas expects a different story on home soil.

"We still have to go to the Emirates and we are confident we can do it there,” he said.

"It was disappointing, but we will now play at home. It’s 1-0, we lost and we did not want to lose but it is not 3-0 or 4-0 so we are confident at home we can make it back.

"It is not the same to play at Stamford Bridge as it is to come here. Here they play in front of their fans, they are more motivated and the pitch is not as good as Stamford Bridge so they play their game.

"Credit to them. Now we will see how they cope at the Emirates against us.

"Maybe it was just one of those nights, but still we have to be disappointed sometimes with our decision-making in the first half.”

Some were surprised to see Fabregas in Wenger’s starting XI with a congested few weeks ahead - indeed it was his first start in the League Cup since February 2007.

The 23-year-old is still searching for full fitness after being sidelined with troublesome hamstring injury and came closest to scoring for Arsenal when he bundled the ball over the bar from close range.

"Of course you can always do better but I am happy physically with how I am feeling, so that is the most important thing right now,” Fabregas said.

"Once you are in the Semi-Final, you have to go for it with your best players. Tonight we played with our best players. We did not win, but it is half-time.

"I felt very good, I felt sharp and am getting back to my best. I am happy with my performance today.”
