Arsène Wenger believes Robin van Persie can be part of a title-challenging Arsenal team next season.

The Frenchman has seen his side recover from a difficult start to the campaign to climb into the Premier League's top three and this week's signing of Lukas Podolski has already reinforced Wenger's squad for next term.

Wenger says the return of his injured players will make Arsenal even stronger and he hopes that will influence this summer's contract talks with Van Persie.

"First, we want Robin to stay because he is convinced that we can play for the championship," said Wenger. "I believe we have that.

"We have bought Lukas Podolski and our next step is to bring Jack Wilshere back and Abou Diaby back. Then, if you look at our squad, I don't feel we are behind anybody else."
