On his side’s performance…
“We had some good combination play and overall I think we deserved to win the game. The substitutions made a difference because of their quality and because when your legs get heavier and you have that quality coming on it has a big impact.”

On Andrey Arshavin’s match-winning performance…
"The difference is now he knows how English football works. He knows as well he is part of the team from the start, and the team knows how important and how big an impact he can have on the results. Arshavin has what you cannot give to a player - he understands when there is an opportunity in the final third, and is certainly dangerous. I believe he can have a big impact his season.”

On Tomas Rosicky’s Emirates comeback…
"I am pleased, but cautious. He has not played for 18 months so I am not a dreamer. If he gets through the next two months without set-backs, then we have won the battle, but it is not won yet."

On the impact of substitute Jack Wilshere
"He has matured, and compared to one year ago he has more power to take people on. That shows there is big potential there and makes him much more dangerous, he has gained a fraction of power that makes him much more dangerous. When he starts to go past people in the final 20 yards, you can always say there is something special there.

“At that age, unfortunately patience is not the first quality, but he is at a big club and has a chance to compete at the top level. We have to manage that well, the desire and the opportunity to play. The potential is there.”

On Wilshere’s first-team chances this season…
“I feel he can play in some games. Wilshere is more a player that goes past people using power whereas Cesc was more of a passer of the ball. Wilshere is a guy who provokes, goes past people and destabilises people and already in the pre-season we have noticed he has gained power.”

On his attacking options this season…
“Today shows we have plenty of offensive players and strikers. Don’t forget today we were also without Theo Walcott. If you consider the number of offensive options we have, it is quite decent.

“We have Arshavin, we have Walcott, we have Eduardo, we have Van Persie, Bendtner and we have Carlos Vela. To play with Arshavin, Fabregas and Walcott and find the balance is very difficult. Our target is to now find a good balance with the offensive players we have, and that is why we could afford to let a striker go.”

On Arsenal’s tough start to the season…
"We want to prepare seriously, because we have a strong start to the season - we play Everton, Manchester City and Man United away in the first few weeks.
We are cautious, but determined to do well. We are highly motivated and focused, which is a good basis."

On the possibility of new faces before the start of the season…

"I will be looking at all the options we have during the week, and then we close [pre-season]. I believe we have quite a strong squad now. If we can add one or two players, we will do it, but not more.”
