On the tale of two halves against Fulham…
“I was quite pleased with the first half but then all of a sudden you come out in the second half and you're 3-0 down. They showed good spirit to keep trying to play. I think even at 3-0 there are positives to take from the game.

“In the first half it was tight and we created a couple of chances and they were quote strong again. I was pleased that we kept trying to play on quite a difficult pitch at times and we carved out a few decent chances.”

On bouncing back from the defeat…
“We haven’t defended a corner properly in the second half and their chins have dropped a touch but they need to learn from that tonight and bounce back for the next game.

“It's an age thing, you are going to get peaks and troughs with young players. I told them at half time that they'd battled away and to keep it nice and tight. They will go through little periods in games where they lose concentration - that could be from tiredness or other certain things that come into play.”

On keeping the ball…

“I thought at times we were a bit loose but in the first half when they put us under a bit of pressure we kept trying to move the ball and the game around. That moved them around so we could try and create a few openings. Obviously we're disappointed with a 3-0 defeat but there are some plusses.”

On facing such experienced players…

“We want to face first team players, that's who we want to be judged against. There's nothing wrong with that, I think it's fantastic to face Diomansy Kamara, Giles Barnes and Julian Gray. That's what we want, that tests our young players.

“When they face senior players it shows what you've done well and what you need to improve on. We kept at it and I don't think many shoulders slumped and they showed good attitude to keep at it and keep trying to get us back into the game.”

On playing many Under-18s in the Reserves…

“That's part of development. On the bigger scale, our lads go out on loan and then these ones come in to replace them. They come along here and some of them think they're players and then they come up against real players and they take an awful lot out of that.”
