Yossi Benayoun insists he is not frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities in an Arsenal shirt so far this season.

The Israeli international has found pitch time limited since his arrival on a season-long loan from Chelsea, but has impressed in the team’s various cup competitions so far this campaign.

Benayoun scored his second Arsenal goal in Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Olympiacos, adding to a strike against Shrewsbury with a fine volley in Greece.

The 31-year-old is yet to start a Premier League feature this season but even he admits that Wenger has struggled to change such a successful side.

“[I am not frustrated] because the team is playing well,” he said. “They say you don’t change a winning team and we are on a good run so it is very difficult to get into the team.

“The only thing I can do is to wait for any chance I get – it doesn’t matter if it is 15 minutes or I get to start. I have to prove myself any chance I get and I am sure I can do it.

“You come here and you know there is a lot of quality so you want to prove yourself.

“I think in the beginning I started against Dortmund away and played more but then I had a little injury and then the team won three games in a row. This is normal in football that you have to wait for a chance.

“Hopefully the team will keep doing well and maybe I will be more involved. Every player wants to play more, of course, but I know I have to be patient.”

Benayoun is not a player short of experience, having featured for the likes of Maccabi Haifa, Liverpool and Chelsea in his successful career so far.

But the 31-year-old’s opportunities have been limited thanks to the strong form of Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey in the Arsenal engine room.

Understandably, Benayoun believes Arsenal fans are yet to see his best.

“Definitely,” he said. “I think I was lucky to be in midfield for the biggest teams in England – especially Liverpool where I had three great years and proved myself,” he said.

“I played for a big club like Liverpool so I think I can play for any club.

“Hopefully when I get the chance I will show it but like I said it is not easy. There is a lot of quality in the team and I will have to be patient.”
