‘The girls are keen to make amends’

Shelley Kerr says Arsenal Ladies will use the pain of losing against Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup semi-final as motivation in this year’s competition.

After going unbeaten throughout the Women’s Super League season and securing the Continental Cup, the Gunners only missed out on a domestic treble when they were beaten by their London rivals at Griffin Park.

"The girls will be keen to make amends and will be keen to get off to a good start"

Kerr’s side travel to Nottingham Forest for Sunday’s fifth-round clash, and the new head coach is determined to begin her tenure with a convincing performance.

“The FA Cup was the trophy that eluded us last season,” she told Arsenal Player. “The girls will be keen to make amends and will be keen to get off to a good start. We know Nottingham Forest have done well. They’ve won three or four of their last games.

“They’ll be tough. With the profile that comes with Arsenal Ladies, they will want to knock us off our perch. We need to be focused for the game on Sunday.

“We have a professional approach in everything we do at the Club and our players are arguably some of the best in Europe. I’m sure that we’ll prepare well and we’ll be up for the game.”
