Arsène Wenger's side matched last year's team with their midweek win at Wolves but the manager says the "dynamic" in his current squad is completely different.
The 3-0 victory at Molineux on Wednesday took Arsenal to 64 points from 33 games - mirroring the class of 2011. But while last year’s vintage challenged for the title only to fall away, Wenger's latest crop have climbed the table after a run of nine wins in 10 Premier League games.
Five points from the final five fixtures will see Arsenal eclipse their total from last term and Wenger knows the momentum is with his team.
"We are in a different situation because we are on the way up, and last year we were on the way down," he explained. "The dynamic is completely different.
"We are on a very strong run, but last year we were on a strong run downwards. Where we finish we will see at the end of the season but at the moment our focus is to maintain our momentum and finish in a stronger position than last year. It is possible if we maintain our results, [like we are] at the moment.
"Champions League football is still our main target of the season. For a while it was very difficult, for some people [they thought] it was impossible, but now it is feasible. Considering where we came from, we want to take our chance now."Copyright 2017 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
