Arsène Wenger says it will be ridiculous if Robin van Persie plays in an international friendly on November 17.

Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk has revealed his desire to call the Arsenal man up for a game against Turkey but Wenger has a very different view.

Arsenal face Tottenham just three days later and he feels the striker’s club should take priority.

“That would be an absolute scandal if he plays in a friendly and not a competition here,” said Wenger.

“He would not be ready. The players have to perform for their clubs first.

“If they are okay for their club they can play for their national team. You cannot have the reverse.”
