Arsène Wenger is excited about the two new additions he has made to the Arsenal squad so far this summer.
Wenger told Arsenal.com on Friday that he expects Ryo Miyaichi to push for a first-team place next season following a successful loan spell with Feyenoord. He also thinks summer signing Carl Jenkinson can challenge Bacary Sagna for a place at right back after the teenager’s move from Charlton Athletic.
Both players will have an opportunity to prove their worth in an Arsenal shirt during the Club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
“Ryo has been a fantastic surprise to us,” Wenger said shortly after arriving in Malaysia. “He did well at Feyenoord after basically coming from school football.
‘He is a very exciting prospect because he is quick and has a quick brain.
“Jenkinson is an interesting buy. We bought him from Charlton and hopefully he will push Sagna.”
Someone else who could be knocking on the door is Emmanuel Frimpong. The combative midfielder looked a shoo-in for first-team opportunities last season before a knee injury curtailed his campaign on the eve of the Premier League start.
“We are very happy to have Frimpong back because he had a good start last year but unfortunately got an injury,” said Wenger.Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
