Arsène Wenger believes Arsenal’s impressive start to their Champions League campaign is linked with confidence.

Wenger’s side have looked impressive in Europe so far, overcoming a tough encounter with Udinese to reach the Group Stages before claiming a hard-earned point in Dortmund and beating Olympiacos.

The manager puts those results down to self-belief and believes that some of Arsenal’s early-season displays deserve more credit than they got.

“It's linked with confidence,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “I think when you look at Newcastle today and then the 0-0 we played with ten men, everybody slaughtered us. Now suddenly you see that Newcastle are doing well.

“It's the same with Udinese in the Champions League, they are joint top of the Italian league. That means we had good performances overall away from home in some games.

“At the moment I do not think we have been rewarded but maybe in Europe we are under pressure less.”
