Arsène Wenger believes his side are still well-positioned in this season’s Champions League, despite being defeated by Schalke at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Wenger’s team are second in Group B with six points at the halfway stage - just one point behind the German group leaders - after winning their first two games in the competition against Montpellier and Olympiacos.
Wenger admits Wednesday’s performance was below-par and is keen for his team to respond with a positive performance against Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League on Saturday.
“It was a performance [against Schalke] that was a bit flat,” he said. “We didn’t create many chances. Of course we are frustrated by that. It looked like we never did really get going and overall we didn’t put the pace in the game that we are used to.
“We cannot complain over the defeat. We faced Schalke and on the day [they] deserved it a fraction more. The regret we have is [we] could have played a 0-0. A point would have been good considering our performance last night.
“We are still in a strong position in the Champions League, what is important for us now is to bounce back and have a good result in the Premier League.”
