On the 2-0 defeat...
"Totally disappointing. I think we've had long periods of possession and never really threatened and I can't remember us having any clear-cut chances. We've got to play with some real urgency to want to go and score and I think tonight we've got caught on a dead-ball situation where I blame the team. No-one's picked up with a free header and we're 1-0 down.

"I'm disappointed that we haven't created more chances but we've had plenty of possession without really going anywhere. We've had a little chat in the changing room and it's a learning curve for them."

On Portsmouth's defensive style...
"They've camped with 10 men behind the ball in their half. If that's the way they want to play then fine but I've said to the lads that if they want to be top-class players they've got to find a way to break them down."

On taking positives from the game...
"We've kept the ball quite well but without really going anywhere but I'll look at the DVD tomorrow and see if I can get positives out of it."

On Emmanuel Frimpong playing on the right...
"We're developing a group with four or five players in central midfield, so I've said to them that there's going to be times when if you want to play you're going to have to find a new position. It doesn't hurt in their development when they play in different positions. We played Frimpong wide on the right to begin with and then we moved Mark [Randall] because they all want to play central but then they have to find another position to get into the side."

On the mood in the dressing room after the defeat...
"I think they're a bit down. They've got to realise that the adulation that the Club is getting and the good press [will mean that] every team that comes to Arsenal now is going to be working even harder and they've got to realise that and when they put that shirt on it's hard work. I think they have worked hard tonight but we just lacked a little bit of cutting edge I felt."

On what he'll be looking for from the West Ham game next week...
"I think it will be more of an attacking game from West Ham but you know tonight was a problem for us and tactically they've got to be able to deal with it and tonight we didn't but I think it will be another good, tough game next week."
