Carl Jenkinson says Arsenal can make a “huge statement of intent” by claiming their first win of the season at Liverpool on Sunday.
The Gunners have been held to goalless draws in their first two matches of the new campaign, but have not lost at Anfield since April 2008.
Jenkinson is looking forward to facing Brendan Rodgers’ side and believes the visitors can kickstart their season with a morale-boosting victory.
“Anfield is always a great place to play football, we’re all looking forward to it and we’re going for the three points,” he told Arsenal Player. “I was only on the bench last year, but the atmosphere and the stadium itself make it a special place.
“Liverpool are an ambitious club, and I am sure they will not sit back at Anfield looking to take a point. Hopefully it will be an open game and maybe that will be of benefit to us because it will open things up a bit.
“It would be a huge statement of intent to win there. Liverpool are a big club but we are just focused on our own game, and hopefully we will execute as we need to and get the three points.”
