Anders Limpar believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain possesses all the attributes to become a “great player” for Arsenal and England.
The 18-year-old forward has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 12 months, going from League One with Southampton to starting England’s opening Euro 2012 match against France.
Former Gunners winger Limpar believes Oxlade-Chamberlain’s confidence, focus and mental strength mark him out as a special talent.
“He’s very fast, and what I like with him is the fact he’s very strong in his head,” he told the Official Arsenal Magazine. “He’s not affected with some things that can influence young players like him.
“For example, if Arsène Wenger takes him off at half-time, or leaves him on the bench for the whole game after he previously had a perfect match, he keeps his focus and plays with the same form.
“Nothing breaks his confidence. With a strong head like that, I think he’s going to be great player.”
Limpar is also confident Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Arsenal and England team-mate Theo Walcott will become even more influential over the coming years.
“Obviously, Theo’s speed is a lethal weapon. Nobody can cope with his pace,” he said.
“At times I feel he could improve the timing of his passes. Once he improves that part of his game, I’m sure he’ll be an even better player, score more goals and set up more for his team-mates.”
