Arsène Wenger says the mood in the Arsenal camp has always been positive - but he remains wary amid their revitalising run of form.
Wenger’s side have won nine of their last 11 matches to force themselves back into top-four contention, with their latest victory coming at the expense of West Brom on Saturday.
It's a far cry from Arsenal's difficult opening month of the campaign but their manager knows that it is easy to lose that winning momentum.
“When you have so much possession and cannot finish a game off I am always a little concerned that the ghosts we had to fight one month ago will come back,” said Wenger.
“We are not yet on a completely different planet and we still have to fight against it. Every win makes us stronger and I feel there is a desire from the team to do well.
“In the past when we have had a young side and it was going our way, that was a little bit of a weakness.
“Now we are a bit lighter in our display, a bit more spontaneous. That is linked with the confidence of course. One month ago we played here against Swansea and absolutely had to win, or else we would have had a complete disaster.”
Wenger believes the mood has brightened significantly at Emirates Stadium in recent weeks - and says the fans have played their part admirably.
“We are not there yet but it is much more positive,” he said. “There was a lot of scepticism after our earlier wins and suddenly the Chelsea game highlighted that we are not too bad.
“It's more enjoyable [at the moment] and our fans are enjoying it more of course. But during that difficult period the fans realised they had to get behind the team again and they have done that very well.
“I feel that because we are more experienced in the side we know better how to kill a game without exposing ourselves.
“You see that on Saturday with the players, the age is more mature. When you need to slow the pace down and control the game. The hunger was always there.”Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
