Arsène Wenger says the way that Arsenal finish this season will determine whether they can challenge for the title next year.

After a difficult start to the campaign in which they lost twice in three games, the Gunners have moved steadily up the table and now lie in third place.

Their form in recent months is similar to that of Manchester United and their title rivals City, and Wenger says he will know during the run-in whether they can compete next season.

“Let's see how we finish. We have big games coming up,” he said. “If we maintain consistency until the end of the season we can think like that.

“If we don't drop any more points I would say we can come to that conclusion. With nine games to go, we've got five at home and four away. It all depends on how we finish.”
