Per Mertesacker says he has no idea if Arsène Wenger will try to re-sign Thierry Henry on loan - but he has relished the chance to face the striker in training.

Arsenal’s all-time record goalscorer has been training with the Gunners during the MLS close season, and has impressed the squad with his quality.

"I am very happy to train with him. He is training very well,” Mertesacker said.

“He has a lot of experience and he is a great opportunity for us, but I am not the manager and I do not know what is possible, for him or for us. In training he shows his class and [it is good] to have him with us."

Mertesacker played his entire career in Germany before his August move to the Emirates, but is pleased with how he is adapting to life in the Premier League.

"It is a little different here [than in] the Bundesliga but you get used to everything in the world and hopefully in the next month I will improve more and more,” he said.

"This is the best league in the world therefore you have to improve your game, but the important thing is to show you can deal with it. It is more physical, maybe not as technical [as the Bundesliga] but the speed is much harder."
