Manchester United will not be adversely affected by Sir Alex Ferguson’s touchline ban, according to Arsène Wenger.

The Premier League leaders’ long-serving manager was handed a five-match suspension this week following comments he made about referee Martin Atkinson after United’s defeat at Chelsea earlier this month.

Wenger was forced to watch his own team from the stands when Arsenal beat Tottenham in the Carling Cup in September and he doesn’t think it makes a significant difference to managers.

“No [it won’t affect Man United] because in England the ban doesn’t affect too much your capacity to work with the team,” said Wenger.

“You can go into the dressing room and you can make the decisions from the stand. Some managers work from the stand so I don’t feel it will affect Man United.”
