Defender assesses thrilling comeback against Villa
By Rob Kelly
Thomas Vermaelen believes Sunday’s comeback victory against Aston Villa could be the catalyst for an upturn in Arsenal’s fortunes.
The Gunners have lost three games in succession in the Premier League, but the Belgian defender saw encouraging signs of improvement against Alex McLeish’s side.
Arsenal are back in action on Wednesday at Bolton, and Vermaelen says they will go into the match at the Reebok on a high.
“It always gives you confidence if you get a good comeback win. Even the game itself gave us confidence because we played better than last weekend [against Manchester United],” he told Arsenal Player.
“When we had the ball we were better, we put our opponents under pressure and the result gives us even more confidence. It is great for us.
“We have lost three games [in a row] in the league, so that is why it was good that we won today. It gives us confidence for the next game, so we will fight hard on Wednesday and try to get the three points.”
