Arsène Wenger has described the next two Arsenal fixtures as "cup finals".

The Frenchman takes his team to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for a vital Premier League game against Chelsea and Marseille will be at Emirates Stadium three days later for another important match in the Champions League.

Wenger knows that two victories will have a galvanising effect on Arsenal's campaign.

"That’s why it is such an important game for us at Chelsea," he said.

"We play two cup games in the next two games – one at Chelsea and one on Tuesday night that can qualify us as well [for the Champions League knockout stage]. So let's go step by step.

"Chelsea is a very important game for us but still I believe the only way to succeed is to focus on the quality of our performance, play our game well and the consequence is that you have a chance to win the game."

Arsenal have not won away in the Premier League this season but that statistic does not concern Wenger.

"We have played nine games since the start of the season and last year we had the best away record in the league so there is no special worry about that," he said.

"For me in football the size of the pitch everywhere is the same, the quality of the pass if you're a good player is the same, I could never understand in my life the difference between home and away."
