Arsène Wenger believes Barcelona’s masterclass in this season’s El Clasico was one of the best performances he has ever seen.
Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed arch-rivals Real Madrid 5-0 at the Nou Camp in November as the Catalans produced a wonderful exhibition of football.
It was hailed as some of the purest football the game has ever witnessed and, before Friday’s Champions League draw, Wenger admitted they are at the level every team should aspire to reach.
“It was some of the best football I’ve ever seen,” said Wenger. “On the night Barcelona were outstanding and played at a too higher pace, performance like that encourages you to get to that level.
“They were outstanding for 90 minutes and had no weak moments. It was the performance of the season in football.
“On a night anything can happen. You can have a weak day. It happened to us last year in the first 30 minutes.”Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
