Andrey Arshavin's match-winning contribution against Barcelona proved he is a great player, according to Johan Djourou.

The Russian playmaker has had his critics this season after struggling to hit the heights he reached during his first months at Emirates Stadium but he has looked like his old self in recent weeks and came off the bench to secure a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night with the coolest of finishes from Samir Nasri's pass.

Arshavin is back among the goals, back among the assists and Djourou could not be happier for his team-mate.

"His goal showed that he is a great player," said the defender. "Great players come back, they have down moments sometimes and he has just come back up and scored a great goal.

"I have never been worried about Andrey because he has so many qualities and he shows it again and again. He showed how important he is to the team.

"I hope it can be a turning point for him because we need him. We need everyone in the squad. We have a lot of quality and I am a big fan of all the players we have here. You should see in training, we have so much quality in every area of the pitch. So we just need everybody to stay fit and fight for each other."
