Arsenal Ladies club captain Faye White has been appointed event ambassador for the 2013 UEFA Women’s Champions League final, which will be played at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge on Thursday, May 23 next year.

Faye, who is currently enjoying some time away from the game after the birth of her first child Lukas last month, has experience of European finals herself, having led Arsenal to the UEFA Women’s Cup in 2007.

While the one-time England skipper will not be involved as a player as the Gunners go for European success again this year, Faye’s prominent off-field role will see her work to build awareness of the women’s game in what will be a second big summer for the sport in London.

She said: “The 2013 UEFA Women’s Champions League final will be the highlight of the European women’s football club calendar, and it’s a real honour to be involved with it.

"After the fantastic support enjoyed by Hope Powell’s Team GB side at this summer’s Olympics – with more than 70,000 going to Wembley to cheer their victory over Brazil - it’s great to see London hosting another major women’s football event next year.”

In becoming UEFA’s event ambassador, Faye follows in the footsteps of legendary German defender Steffi Jones, who held the post last year.
