Alex Scott believes Ellen White’s crucial late strike has relieved some of the pressure ahead of Arsenal Ladies’ second leg in Gothenburg next week.
Second-half goals from Kim Little and White ensure Laura Harvey’s side travel to Sweden with a two-goal cushion in their Champions League quarter-final tie.
Scott made her first start since returning to the Club from Boston Breakers last week and says the team are in a strong position.
“It [the third goal] is definitely crucial,” she told Arsenal Player. “Talking to the girls in the dressing room after the game we could have scored even more goals. But we are in a comfortable position going into the away leg now and it is all on us.
“We didn't start too well but in the end we just showed the character of this team. In the end we got the three goals, which is good going into the second leg.
“I thought we had most of the possession, but it was just what we were not doing with it. We started off a bit dead and needed a bit of urgency. That is what we said at half time and that is what we did in the second half.
“Now we need to go into the second leg like that and start the game in that way instead of waiting to go a goal behind and then trying to step it up.
“It just shows you the strength of this squad. We believe we can go on and win all four trophies this year and that is what we are hoping to achieve. We won this competition in 2007 and the aim of the Club is to win it again this year.”
Scott featured in an unfamiliar advanced role on the right side of midfield and she is delighted to be back in action for the Club.
“It's just great to be back in the Arsenal shirt,” said the England international. “I played as a winger today and just had to do a job for the team.
“I am hoping to get back into my normal position at right back and see where I can go on from there, but it is great to be back in Arsenal colours.”
