Derby County Football Club extended a warm welcome to Arsenal Ladies and the Club’s fans last week when Kim Little and Laura Bassett were invited to Derby’s Moor Farm training complex ahead of the FA Women’s Cup Final which kicks off at 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday 4 May at the Ram’s Pride Park.
The Gunners will take on Sunderland Ladies in their second cup final of this season and hope that it will be their 10th FA Cup in the team’s 21 year history, and fourth consecutive win of the trophy.
During Kim and Laura’s time at Moor Park, they met up with their Sunderland rivals as Rams manager Nigel Clough and midfielder Robbie Savage joined the Ladies to coach a local Wembley-bound school side.
Speaking at the event, Arsenal and England defender Laura Bassett said: “It was great to kick-start promotion for our forthcoming FA Cup Final up in Derby earlier this week. Robbie Savage and Nigel Clough are really supportive of women’s football and we hope that Arsenal fans will also show their support for us, and the women’s game, on May 4th at Pride Park.
“The last time we faced Sunderland was back in 2007 and both teams have changed a lot since then. We’ll be going into the game with a lot of respect for the Black Cats; we’ll play our football and hopefully bring the trophy back to north London.”
Last year, a record 24,000 fans watched Arsenal beat Leeds United at Nottingham Forest FC and with the help of the geographically central location for this year's final it is hoped a new record will be set with a crowd of 30,000 plus turning out for an FA Women’s Cup Final.
Tickets for the final cost just £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions with a special price of £3 and £2.50 for group bookings of more than 15 tickets (one adult per 10 children).
