Arsenal Ladies can today confirm the signing of Helen Lander from Watford FC.
The centre forward (22) played for England at Under-23 level, but switched allegiance to that of her maternal grandparents and has since made her full international debut for Wales.
Lander spent her playing career with the Hornets having joined the side aged nine, and was handed the role of club captain two seasons ago in recognition of her influence both on and off the pitch. After enjoying a good start to the 2008/09 season, Helen has joined the Gunners looking to take the next step in her career.
On her arrival Lander said: “I’ve been with Watford for a long time, so it’s obviously a big decision to leave but I’m really excited about the challenge of joining Arsenal Ladies. Their pedigree is well known both domestically and in Europe, and I can’t wait to get started with the match against Colchester United in the FA Cup tomorrow at Boreham Wood.”
Arsenal Ladies manager Vic Akers said of the centre forward: “We've always looked at Helen, and wanted to bring her to the Club if the opportunity arose. She's a proven goalscorer, getting four against Blackburn recently which is no small achievement. We're looking forward to welcoming her to Arsenal Ladies and hope that she extends her goalscoring run here and helps us secure some trophies this season."
Everyone at Arsenal Ladies wishes Helen great success at the Club, she will wear shirt number 20.Copyright 2013 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 3 Jan 2009
