Steph Houghton believes Arsenal Ladies can cope with high expectations after being installed as favourites for the Women’s Super League title.

Laura Harvey’s treble winners enjoyed incredible success on the domestic front last season, winning the league, FA Cup and Continental Cup in a dominant campaign.

The Ladies kick off their new WSL campaign against Everton at Meadow Park on Sunday and Houghton is confident that this season can be another one to remember.

“Obviously I think it is going to be hard to top [last season] but I think if you look at the overall performances, we didn't play as well as we probably could have done,” she told Arsenal Player.

“We are trying to turn our performances to make sure that we improve as a team, as well as individually, and I am sure we will have the same mindset as we had last season.

“We just have to make sure that we compete with all of the other teams in the league, whether it is in cup competitions or the WSL.

“You have to expect that teams are going to come flying at you, get stuck in and make sure that we don't get time on the ball. But I think we just have to concentrate on ourselves really.

“We know that we are a passing team and if we keep possession of the ball we will create chances and score goals. There are players in the team that can do that out of nothing and that is really good to see.”
