Laura Harvey admits Arsenal need a break following a gruelling winter that has seen the Gunners competing both domestically and in Europe.

Sunday’s FA Cup Final victory will be Arsenal’s last game until July 24 with the inaugural Women’s Super League taking a mid-season break for the World Cup in Germany.

Arsenal’s Champions League exploits and a hectic WSL schedule means they have been without a proper rest since their European adventure began in September. Harvey’s side have played a testing 14 games since March 13 and the manager feels they need time to recuperate.

“Maybe mentally more than physically, we need a bit of a breather,” she said. “Starting in the Champions League last August and not having a break through until now has been tough.

“We will come back again after the World Cup and regroup, talk about the things we have been doing well and focus on the things we need to focus on a little bit more.

“We need to make sure we eradicate the sloppy mistakes we have made in the Super League. We feel the two games that we have dropped points in were down to our mistakes.

“That means that we can turn it around. We are pleased to have come through that. We need a break, to regroup.”
