Laura Harvey thinks Arsenal Ladies side have every chance of going a step further in the Women’s Champions League this season.
The Gunners reached the Semi-Finals last term only to lose to eventual winners Lyon and they have already advanced to the last eight this time around having seen off Rayo Vallecano in the last 16.
Harvey’s side have been drawn to face Gothenburg in the Quarter-Finals and Harvey has high hopes for her players.
“I think the exposure and experience [from last season will be positive],” she said. “The Japan tour links in with that as well. Some of the players had never played against players of that standard - they may have only seen them before.
“To put yourselves up against that, you know where you're at. It sounds a little bit arrogant but we don't really feel we played that well this year.
“Despite having won everything we did, we still feel there's a lot of growing and developing to do. I believe we can do that in the next six months to push on and be successful on the European stage.
“I don't think going one step further is out of our reach. The draw has been relatively kind to us - we've missed Lyon and Potsdam who are ranked higher than us. If we can push on and play well then maybe we can go one step further.”
Harvey’s side will face Gothenburg over two legs in April and the manager admits the Swedish outfit are something of an unknown quantity.
“We know a little bit about them,” she said. “Swedish football is going through a bit of a transitional period. Malmo and Gothenburg qualified for the Champions League having not done so the year before.
“Malmo are going to lose a few players to the American league and I think Gothenburg are trying to do the opposite and get a few back. It'll be interesting to see if they get any signings between now and March.
“They're in a similar boat to us because their season didn't start until March like ours, so they won't have played that many games until we play them.”
