Debutant goalscorer Suzanne Grant admits that Kelly Smith is the hardest act to follow but the Scottish international is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Grant came on after 77 minutes of Arsenal Ladies’ League Cup Final victory over Doncaster on Thursday night and duly grabbed her first goal for the Club in the 5-0 rout.

With the departures of Smith, Alex Scott and Karen Carney to the Women’s Professional Soccer League, 24-year-old Grant is a member of a new-look Arsenal side and she can’t wait to kick off a new era at the Club.

“Kelly’s are big shoes to fill but I’m going to give it my best and hopefully there will be more goals to come,” the striker told Arsenal.com. “I’m very happy to be a part of it and it has been one of my ambitions to come down here.

“It’s a loss with people moving upstairs because obviously Vic has done brilliantly here. That said, it’s a new door opening and hopefully the girls will do the same.

“I thought it was just a privilege to be involved in the game, I didn’t expect to come on and get that bonus of scoring so first trophy, first game, first goal so I’m delighted.”
