Tony Gervaise... new Ladies manager wants to improve excellence

Gervaise - More to come in our ‘new era’

By Declan Taylor

New Ladies manager Tony Gervaise believes there is room for improvement as he kicks off a “new era” at the Club.

Vic Akers drew a line under his 22-year tenure at Arsenal after leading his side to a superb domestic treble in 2008/09. Now Gervaise will now take the reigns after joining the Club last summer as Academy Director.

The loss of five key Arsenal Ladies over the course of last season prompted talk of a new beginning at the Club and the new manager could not agree more. And, despite their near-total domination over the years, the Scotsman believes there is more to come from his side.

“It is the start of a new era,” Gervaise told Arsenal.com.

“This is quite a unique one because it’s a 22-year era that is ending. What has happened before has been fantastic but I think in football it is about today and tomorrow.

“What the Club has achieved is just absolutely fantastic but we’re now moving forward into a new, exciting time.

“We want to move it forward and as a Club we want to be at the forefront of that and remain there. And also raise our own standards in performance and improve excellence.

“It can always be bettered.”
