Ellen White and Niamh Fahey are determined to crown a remarkable season by ensuring that Arsenal Ladies reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Laura Harvey’s team, who won the Women’s Super League and the Continental Cup this season, beat German champions FFC Turbine Potsdam 2-1 at Meadow Park in the first leg of their last-16 clash on Thursday.

As well as winning two titles, White, who scored Arsenal’s second against the 2010 winners, was also part of the Great Britain squad at the 2012 Olympics and helped England to qualify for next summer’s European Championships in Sweden. But while admitting she’s proud of what she has achieved this year, the striker is now targeting European glory at domestic level.

“We’ve won two trophies for Arsenal and that’s fantastic,” White told

“It’s been a whirlwind. Going to the Olympics was unbelievable and was something that I’ve never experienced before and maybe never will [again]. It was something to take in and I absolutely loved it. It was great to be a part of such an amazing team and being in London 2012.

“On a club front, it was fantastic to get two trophies, and England have qualified for the Euros. It’s not been a bad season really.

“Collectively we all want to win the Champions League. It starts by beating Potsdam and getting in the draw for the quarters and hopefully getting a good team.

“But we’re not finished yet. We’ve still got another 90 minutes ahead of us. We can’t take anything for granted and hopefully we’ll do the business on Wednesday.

“We’ve won everything domestically and what’s eluded us for the last couple of years is the Champions League,” Fahey added. “We’ve always reached the quarter-finals stage at least, so we definitely don’t want to go out at this stage. The squad’s ambition now is to win the Champions League.”

“It’s massive. Everyone’s focused on it. We’re going to go out all guns blazes to try and win it. Hopefully we can continue and see out the second leg.”
