While her team-mates hunt goals in the Women’s Champions League on Thursday, Emma Byrne will be striving to keep the clean sheet that would make their task a whole lot easier.

Arsenal Ladies must turn around a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Spanish champions Rayo Vallecano to take their place in the Quarter-Finals but an away goal will leave them needing to score four times. It’s a precarious position but Emma is confident Arsenal can record a famous victory.

We caught up with the goalkeeper ahead of Thursday’s second leg. She discussed:

  • the story behind the first-leg defeat
  • the reasons for Arsenal’s poor display
  • why she thinks they can turn the tie around
  • the lack of competitive games
  • the importance of a clean sheet
  • the prospect of a penalty shoot-out
  • why she does not study spot kicks
  • the return of Faye White and Katie Chapman
