A beaming Jennifer Beattie cut a delighted figure after her hat-trick helped to fire Arsenal into the last 16 of the Women’s Champions League.
Beattie was only introduced as a half-time substitute against Barcelona on Thursday, but blew the Spanish champions away with a masterclass in clinical finishing as Laura Harvey’s team eventually ran out 4-0 winners at Meadow Park.
The 21-year-old also scored in last week’s first leg in Barcelona and, clutching the match ball after the final whistle, she described her joy with her current form.
“I think it’s probably my first hat-trick for Arsenal so to do it in a massive game like this I’m more than chuffed,” Beattie told Arsenal.com.
“But I don’t know if I’m Champions League top scorer because I never really look at the stats!”
Beattie replaced Kelly Smith on Thursday to lead the line just four days after being deployed as left back against Doncaster. The Scotland international insists she doesn’t mind where she plays, as long as she is in the team.
“It’s pretty tricky, but I always say to myself that I have to be in the right frame of mind and turn up focused,” she said.
“As long as I’m on the pitch I’m happy. I do like scoring goals though.”Copyright 2016 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source
