On scooping his 10th FA Cup…
“I know these guys and I know they would go out and make sure they brought the trophy home. I had every confidence in them. We didn’t play well, certainly second period, and we never got our real game going and that was a disappointment. But other than that I thought we were worthy winners.”

On experience playing a part in the victory…
“I think it helped a great deal today. Sunderland are a very young, up-and-coming side and not many of those girls have experienced this sort of atmosphere. It was always going to be more difficult for them.”

On why Arsenal always rise to the occasion…
“We have always had a great spirit at the football club and I think everybody has a real go for each other from the top to the bottom. I think it’s very important and we’ve been fortunate over my period of time that we’ve had the backing of a major Club. I feel for teams that haven’t got the same backing and if they were to get it the game would improve no end.”

On recovering from their high-profile departures…
“You don’t have players like Kelly Smith, Karen Carney, Alex Scott, Julie Fleeting, Anita Asante, Lianne Sanderson go out of your group and not miss them. That’s just the ones who have left the Club; we still had Faye White and Yvonne Tracy not playing for six months. It has been really hard, definitely my hardest year. But we’ve seen great character from the girls who are here – none more so than Katie Chapman who has been outstanding over the last few months.

On missing Julie Fleeting’s cutting edge…
“Fleeting is a special animal and if she was there today I am sure she would have scored a hat-trick. I thought aerially we never finished the balls that went in and we miss Fleeting immensely. But she’s pregnant, she’ll have her baby in July and she’s looking forward to coming back with us next season.”
