Ladies finalise preparations for tour opener

Laura Harvey’s team trained at the Nishigaoka Stadium on Tuesday evening in preparation for Wednesday’s INAC Kobe clash at Tokyo’s 57,000-capacity National Stadium.

Laura Harvey and Jayne Ludlow joined with their opposite numbers to speak to a throng of Japanese media ahead of the session. Scroll down the page for Laura's pre-match comments.

on INAC Kobe…
We’re really happy to be here and want to say congratulations to INAC Kobe on their first league championship this year. We hope to have a good competition with them and a good game. We will try and raise as much as possible for the tsunami and earthquake relief effort. We hope that we can make the game enjoyable and we look forward to it.

on Arsenal's approach to the game...
In terms of how we would like to play, it’s about being able to adapt to playing against a team from a different continent and how they play, which is something that we haven’t been able to do before. We’ve never played on this side of the world before. So to play against a team from Asia and obviously with the level of players that INAC Kobe has - it’ll be interesting to be able to pitch ourselves against that.

on their style of play…
We have our own style of football. We try to play in as similar way to the [Arsenal] men’s team and to play football as attractive as possible. We want to stay faithful to the style of football we play. We feel attacking is a strength of ours. But we are also quite dominant defensively. We don’t like to concede goals if possible, so we will be trying to show what we’ve got in both areas and try not to play any differently to how we would if we were back home in England.

on support from the men’s team…
Obviously Mr Wenger worked out in Japan prior to joining Arsenal and he wished us good luck before we came out here. I believe Faye White learned some Japanese from Ryo back in London too and, although he’s new to the Club, he’s been very supportive of this tour too.

Jayne Ludlow added: "Kunichiwa. I’d just like to say on behalf of all the players, we couldn’t wait to come over here and play some of the best players in the world. We’re really looking forward to testing ourselves against some of the best players in the world."
