Laura Harvey has paid tribute to Arsenal star Rachel Yankey after the midfielder equalled England Ladies’ caps record.

Yankey’s start in her country’s 4-0 win over Slovenia on Thursday saw her draw level with Gillian Coultard’s 119 international appearances.

Harvey has worked with the 32-year-old since joining Arsenal as a first-team coach in 2008 and heaped praise on the experienced midfielder for her achievement.

“It is an unbelievable achievement and for somebody like Rachel who has been in the game for so long, she deserves the honour,” Harvey told Arsenal.com. “She works really hard in her game, has always been a credit to women's football and is a great role model for kids.

“Anybody who meets her would know that she is one of the nicest people off the pitch - but she is also a winner and she wants to be the best she possibly can. You don't get 119 caps for your national team unless you are an exceptional talent, which she definitely is.

“We are really pleased for her and I am sure this record is going to be smashed by her. This hopefully won't be the last time you see Rachel Yankey in an England shirt, I am sure she is going to take the record on to another level.

“She deserves it completely because she is just a fantastic ambassador for the sport and hopefully we can see some more great performances in the future.”
