Speaking ahead of Arsenal's game against Leicester City on February 12, Arsene Wenger said: "I think he is very close. Fitness-wise he is there, it is just competition he misses. It is a bit early for him maybe but he is now back to full power in training. It is a big possibility [he could be involved against Hull next week]. We gave him one or two days recovery after the under-21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit."

Arsene Wenger said on February 5 before the game against Bournemouth. "It’s too early. The only thing we know is that it’s a bad muscular injury that will keep him out for a long time. The good news is that he will apparently not need surgery as it is a partial rupture of his tendon but how long it takes, [whether] it is two months or three months, we don’t know. We are all shocked and he is the most shocked and we have to patient and hope that it is not his last game."
