Arsène Wenger has paid tribute to Lukas Podolski’s "immaculate" crossing ability.

The 27-year-old was in deadly form against West Ham United on Wednesday night, lashing in a shot from 25 yards before laying on three assists for team-mates.

Podolski has scored 11 goals for Arsenal since joining last summer, but Wenger sees the German’s long-term future on the left-hand side.

“You can have many theories, but it’s still better to have a left footer on the left side to get good crosses in,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “If somebody has an accurate cross, it is Podolski.

“He has a fantastic left foot - you saw that on his goal. The quality of his crosses is absolutely immaculate and when you play in the middle, you want people who can cross like him.”

Two of the goals created by Podolski were finished by Olivier Giroud, and Wenger feels the French international is only going to get better.

“I’m convinced that he will become stronger and stronger. People feel that as well. He’s accepted because he’s a fighter as well.

“He has charisma, a good mentality and links well with other people. He’s adjusting well technically to the difficulty and the movement of the Premier League.

“You feel that there’s more to come from him. The fact that he scores goals will help to get that out of him.”
