Man United 0-1 Arsenal
October 20, 1990

This game may have been won by Anders Limpar’s first-half goal, but it will forever be remembered for the mass brawl that broke out between the two sides. Nigel Winterburn and Man United forward Brian McClair had previous after an altercation two seasons earlier, and they came together again at Old Trafford. Their confrontation near the touchline saw 21 players get involved in an incident that saw the Gunners docked two points and the hosts one. Despite that penalty, Arsenal went on to lift the Division One title.

If ever a single game has turned a title race on its head, it was this one. The Gunners, in Arsene Wenger’s first full season in charge, headed to Old Trafford nine points behind Manchester United - albeit with three games in hand. Marc Overmars’ 79th-minute strike - poked through the legs of the onrushing Peter Schmeichel - secured the win and dealt a decisive blow to the hosts’ Premier League ambitions. Such was the effect of the result that Arsenal went on to win the title with two games to spare and also lifted the FA Cup for the first of Wenger’s two Doubles.

Man United 0-1 Arsenal
May 8, 2002

When Arsenal made the trip to Old Trafford in the penultimate game of the 2001/02 campaign, they knew - having won the FA Cup four days earlier - that a victory would seal an historic Double. Despite the absence of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Tony Adams, Wenger’s side played with real confidence and secured the title when Sylvain Wiltord, on his 100th appearance for the club, reacted first to slot in after Fabien Barthez had parried Freddie Ljungberg's shot. Having had a fierce rivalry all season, this was a landmark result as the Gunners won the league at Old Trafford, sparking the chant that is still heard today.

Man United 0-2 Arsenal
February 15, 2003

Having won the Double the previous season, Arsenal slugged it out with Man United game by game, point by point the following year. This FA Cup fifth-round clash was very much a heavyweight contest, but the Gunners played with real verve - although they were lucky to escape when Ryan Giggs rounded David Seaman only to shoot over the bar with the goal gaping. Minutes later, a deflected free-kick from Edu opened the scoring for Wenger’s side and they sealed their progress seven minutes into the second half when Wiltord added a second. The Gunners would go on to win the FA Cup, but narrowly missed out on the league title.

Danny Welbeck celebrates his goal at Old Trafford

Man United 1-2 Arsenal
March 9, 2015

What a return to Old Trafford for Manchester United youth product Danny Welbeck. With the scores level at 1-1 during this entertaining FA Cup quarter-final, the England striker latched on to Antonio Valencia’s scuffed backpass, beat David De Gea to the ball and calmly slotted into the empty net to spark joyous celebrations and settle the tie. Nacho Monreal had opened the scoring after 26 minutes, scoring just his second goal for the club when finishing an incisive team move, before Wayne Rooney equalised with a header three minutes later. But Welbeck would have the final say as Arsenal secured their first win at Old Trafford in 11 attempts.
