Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says his Arsenal team-mates will not underestimate Brighton and Hove Albion in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at the American Express Community Stadium.

Gustavo Poyet’s team beat Newcastle United in the previous round of the cup, and are just one position away from the Championship play-off places.

We’re going to have to go there, make sure we don’t take our foot off the gas, give them the respect they deserve, and make sure we match them physically and commitment-wise

Oxlade-Chamberlain was part of the Arsenal team that was knocked out of the League Cup by Bradford City, and he is determined not to bow out of another cup competition prematurely.

“You’ve got to have a lot of respect for all teams, especially in these cup competitions,” he said.

“When we went out to Bradford, the week before I think they lost 2-0 to Barnet in the league. That’s football for you and especially in the cup, magical things and results and upsets can happen.

“You’ve got to approach every game as if it was a Premier League game and the FA Cup’s a massive competition. We want to do really well in it and we want to get to the final and win it. We’re going to have to go to Brighton expecting a tough game, because they can play football. They’ve got players in their team who are committed at the same time.

“We’re going to have to go there, make sure we don’t take our foot off the gas, give them the respect they deserve, and make sure we match them physically and commitment-wise. We’ve got to try and play our own game and make sure we get the result and get through to the next round.”
