UK Panna Final takes place on Sunday at Emirates Stadium
Emirates Stadium to host UK Panna Final
On Sunday, May 31, Emirates Stadium will host the second ever UK Final of the UK Panna Street Football Tournament, presented by the The Dutch Embassy.
Panna is a Dutch form of 1-on-1 street football that originated amongst the Surinamese community of Amsterdam. The emphasis is on dribbling and fast feet. A nutmeg/panna wins the game.
The tournament will take place on the podium around the stadium from 12pm to 5 pm on Sunday. It is open access, so all are welcome to attend, and there is sure to be some great football on show.
There are also two places still left in the UK finals. For your chance to enter, register on the day at 11.30am. Preliminary rounds to find the two winners for the finals will take place from 12pm to 2.30pm. There are two age categories in the tournament – Under-11s and ages 11 to 18.
Preliminary rounds of the Panna Tournament around the UK have taken place over the last week in Hull, Liverpool, Belfast and Glasgow and this weekend will see the winning Panna players from each location come together at the home of the Gunners in the ultimate stage of this unique football competition.
This week, in the lead up to the UK Final, Arsenal in the Community have run a series of 12 one day Dutch Panna tournaments across north London locations, including Islington’s Rosemary Gardens and Finsbury Park.
Head of Arsenal in the Community Alan Sefton said: “There is a real buzz around Islington ahead of this Sunday’s Panna UK Final. The young people we have introduced to Dutch Panna have really enjoyed taking part and learning more about this unique type of street football.”
In addition to Arsenal, the Dutch Embassy has partnered with Celtic, Rangers, Liverpool, Everton, Hull City and various councils and community organisations including Arsenal in the Community and Islington Council, in order to reach as many young people as possible.
Dutch Embassy Ambassador Pim Waldeck said: “Dutch Panna Football is a grass roots phenomenon from the streets of Amsterdam. It is highly successful in getting people from all different backgrounds to come together. We are very pleased to introduce to the British people this wonderful game and hope they too will benefit from its cross cutting appeal."
The winner on Sunday will be flown to Amsterdam to participate in the Dutch Open Championships of Dutch Panna Knock Out.
